📚 Explanation & FAQ
What does this tool do? The Song Structure & Arrangement Generator is a practical blueprint maker: You select Genre, Song Length and an Energy Level, and the tool creates a typical song form (e.g. Intro → Verse → Pre → Chorus → Bridge → Outro) as a structured timeline in bars. Additionally, you get an Energy Curve as a clear graphic, so you can see at a glance where build-ups, peaks, and “reset moments” (e.g. Bridge/Break) take place. The focus is not on "right/wrong", but on a fast, musically sensible starting point that you can implement directly in your DAW.
How are the bars calculated? You enter a song length in minutes. From this, the tool roughly calculates the number of bars based on your BPM and the Time Signature. For 4/4: 1 Bar = 4 Beats. Example: 3.0 minutes at 120 BPM results in approx. (3.0×120)/4 = 90 bars. This is an approximation – but ideal for planning an arrangement in 4 or 8-bar blocks. The generator logic also rounds bar counts to "musical" values (mostly 4/8/16) so that phrases feel natural.
What does the Energy Level do? The slider shifts the dynamics: low values give more air, fewer peaks, and often shorter drops; high values push Choruses, Builds, and the final section harder. This creates a curve that matches your target: "mellow & smooth" vs. "festival & maximal". In practice, this means: At higher energy, e.g., more layers, more drums/transients, and clearer intensifications are recommended.
What are the Arrangement Tips for? Each section receives concrete notes on how to differentiate them palpably: Instrumentation (Drums/Bass/Harmony/Lead), Density (few vs. many elements), Transitions (Risers, Fills, Filters, Breaks), and Hook Management (Lead motif, Vocal hook, Topline). Especially if you get stuck, this is gold: You get immediate ideas on what to leave out in the Bridge, when the Bass drops, or how to make the Chorus bigger without just turning everything up.
FAQ
1) Is this "the" perfect song structure? No – these are proven standard forms. Hits break rules, but they know the rules. Use the output as a template and adapt it to your song.
2) Why are there genre differences? Genres have typical dramaturgies: EDM often needs Build/Drop, Rock lives on band dynamics, LoFi usually stays more consistent. The tool reflects these listening habits.
3) What if my song has no Pre-Chorus? No problem: You can add Pre-Chorus bars to the Verse or Chorus. The structure is modular.
4) I work in 8-bar phrases – does that work? Yes. Rounding prioritizes 4/8/16. If you are very strict, change BPM or Length minimally so the sum adds up "cleanly".
5) Why BPM at all? Without BPM, time cannot be converted into bars. If only bars are important to you, simply set BPM to your session value.
6) Can I save the output? Yes: "Copy" copies everything to the clipboard, "TXT" downloads a text file – practical for Notion boards or band chats.
7) Does this work on mobile? Yes, UI is responsive. On very small screens, the table will be displayed as scrollable.
8) Why is the energy curve only "small"? It is a quick compass. You do the details in the DAW with automation, mutes, filter sweeps, and layer management.
