How to find the right tent size for your guests

The right tent size determines whether your guests feel comfortable or if the party tent quickly becomes cramped. Especially for weddings, birthdays, garden parties, company parties, or club festivals, a reliable orientation is worth its weight in gold. With the Party Tent Calculator, you calculate the required tent area in m² based on your number of people and receive suitable tent dimensions as a recommendation – ideal if you want to rent a party tent and compare offers from tent rental companies quickly.

The basis is: The area per person depends heavily on how your event is set up. A casual standing party requires less room than a dinner with tables, buffet, and dance floor. Typical guidelines (practical and good for planning) are:

  • Standing / Party: approx. 0.5–0.7 m² per person
  • Seated – Rows: approx. 0.8–1.0 m² per person
  • Beer Bench Sets / Banquet: approx. 1.0–1.3 m² per person
  • Festive Banquet (e.g., Wedding): approx. 1.4–1.8 m² per person

The calculator uses these rules of thumb so you can calculate a realistic tent size without tables.

To ensure the result really fits, always consciously plan for additional areas – because they are rarely calculated "per person". For a buffet, drinks station, bar, cloakroom, photo booth, technology, or a DJ booth, 8–25 m² are quickly occupied. A small stage or presentation area can require another 6–15 m². Additionally, walkways make a big difference: When guests meet, queue, or walk between tables, a few square meters more immediately feels more comfortable. In bad weather, if you close sidewalls or the celebration takes place predominantly inside the tent, a reserve of about 10–15% is worthwhile. The same applies to a dance floor: Plan additional square meters for this so that everyone can move and the area does not "disappear" between tables.

The suggested tent dimensions are based on common, easily rentable modules like 5×5 m, 6×12 m, or 8×16 m. You can get these standard sizes from many providers, and they can be combined if necessary if a single tent size is not enough. When renting a party tent, also pay attention to the equipment: stable securing (pegs or weights), sidewall tarps, lighting, optional heating, as well as a suitable floor on soft or wet ground. For larger events – depending on the location – permits, minimum distances, escape routes, or fire protection requirements may be relevant. Also clarify whether the ground is level and whether electricity for light, music, and possibly heaters is available.

Final Tip: It is better to plan slightly generously, especially with strollers, wheelchairs, many guests in a tight space, or additional technology. This keeps the atmosphere relaxed, and you know exactly which tent area and which tent size fit your event even before the inquiry.
