Online Guitar Tuner

How this Tuner works (Explanation)
This online guitar tuner uses your device's microphone and analyzes the audio signal directly in the browser (Web Audio API). You get not just "right/wrong", but a precise display in Hertz, the note name, and the deviation in Cents (100 Cents = 1 Semitone). This allows you to tune much more accurately than with many simple apps – ideal for recording, rehearsals, or live setups. Additionally, the Guitar Mode shows the target notes of the selected tuning and automatically highlights the string that best matches the measured pitch.
How to use the tuner: Click on "Start Microphone" and allow access. Then play a single string as cleanly as possible (no chords). Wait briefly until the display is stable. The needle moves to the left if the tone is too low, and to the right if it is too high. In the middle, "IN TUNE" appears as soon as you are within tolerance. Tip: Mute the other strings with your picking hand – this reduces overtones and makes detection faster. For electric guitar, it works best with a clean signal (little distortion). Acoustic: do not hold the microphone directly into the soundhole, but slightly offset, so the attack is not overemphasized.
Value-Add Features: (1) String Detection: You don't have to guess which string you are hitting; the tuner suggests the closest target string. (2) Alternative Tunings: Standard, Drop-D, Half Step Down, DADGAD, and Open-G are directly selectable – practical for song changes. (3) Calibration: Set A4 to e.g., 432–446 Hz if you are playing with piano, brass, or old recordings. (4) Noise Gate/Sensitivity: If it "jitters", lower the sensitivity or play louder; in noisy environments increase the Gate so silence is truly recognized as silence. (5) Large Tuning Meter: The display is extra high-contrast and easy to read on mobile phones.
Data Privacy: The audio signal remains on your device. It is not uploaded and not saved; the browser only processes short audio buffers in RAM to calculate the pitch. Microphone access only works via HTTPS for security reasons (or locally via "localhost"). If you embed the tuner in WordPress/Elementor, make sure to publish the page via SSL.
Integration in Elementor Free: Create a page, drag the "HTML" widget in, and paste the complete code. Save, open the page in the frontend (not just in the editor), and start the microphone. Some cache/minify plugins change script tags; if it doesn't start, disable JavaScript combining for this page.
FAQ
Why doesn't the tuner recognize my string?
Check if the correct microphone is selected, if your browser has access, and if the signal is loud enough. With very quiet signals or strong background noise, no stable pitch will be found. If necessary, increase the volume, lower the Noise Gate, and mute other strings.
Why does the display jump?
Play only one string, mute vibrating strings, and avoid hard picking directly at the bridge. New strings stretch; tune multiple times and stretch them gently. Heavy distortion can also obscure the fundamental frequency.
Does this work on iPhone/iPad?
Yes, but iOS/Safari often requires a user click before audio is allowed to start. Start the tuner first and then play the string. On older iOS versions, switching to Chrome might help (though it still uses WebKit). Important: HTTPS must be active.
Can I also tune a Bass or Ukulele?
The tuner is chromatic and recognizes every note. In Guitar Mode, the target notes are optimized for guitar; for other instruments use "Chromatic" or set a matching tuning and orient yourself by Note Name + Cents deviation.
Why does "in tune" still sound weird?
Check the intonation (octave purity) at the 12th fret. Also, pressing too hard on the fret pulls the tone up. With Tremolo systems, the tuning can change due to string tension; tune the strings in small steps and "settle" the Tremolo.
How accurate is the measurement?
Under good conditions, accuracy within a few cents is achievable. Very cheap microphones, strong room noise, or extreme distortion reduce stability; play as clean and evenly as possible and use the Noise Gate.
Can I hear reference tones?
This tuner is intentionally "silent" (no sound output) to avoid feedback loops. For reference tones, use a tuner device in parallel or play the target note via a keyboard/plugin.
